Log Cabin Maple Syrup Provides Insight into Pinnacle
Tuesday, November 30th, 2010The new offering from the Log Cabin Maple Syrup brands provides an insight into its manufacturer, Pinnacle Foods Corporation. The new product is called ”All Natural Syrup”, not “maple syrup” because it only contains 4% maple syrup.
Surprisingly the “all natural” product contains eight ingredients (most of which are brown rice and sugar) compared to 100% pure maple syrup’s one. Apparently, it takes a lot of ingredients to engineer a product that imitates the real stuff. Wondering what type of company chooses to spend time and effort to sell an imitation product, I checked out the Pinnacle Foods Corporation site.
Pinnacle Foods purpose is to ‘make an impact’. It seeks to make a difference through ‘Innovation’, ‘Inspiration’, and ‘Renovation’. While it is readily apparent what that means in terms of architecture, it is not readily clear what those terms mean for food. The explanations are sprinkled with phrases such as ‘new taste options’, ‘memorable taste experience’, ‘nutritional ingredient improvements, and ‘flavor additions’. One can imagine the group of executives gathered around a conference table hammering out the exact terms to use in describing… food. Simple food.
In a choice between eating one of Pinnacle Foods Corporation’s new taste options or eating 100% pure maple syrup, I’ll take the real item every time. Now that’s a memorable taste experience.
